On November 29 1993, the body of Graham Bourke (a 44-year-old butcher) was found in the boot of his red Holden Calais on Sherbrook Road Hornsby, approximately one kilometre from his home. He had been shot in the back of the head and his throat had been cut.
A watch was also found in the boot. Relatives of Mr Bourke don’t believe the watch belonged to him.
Mr Bourke was last seen on the 25th of October 1993. He purchased a lottery ticket at a newsagent on Pittwater Rd, Mona Vale then visited friends at the butcher’s next door. He left the shop at approximately 6.45pm telling his friends that he was going to see a man who owed him $5000. The man, Geoffrey Smith, denies meeting Mr Bourke that night.
Two weeks before Mr Bourke’s body was found, his daughter Lee received a phone call from somebody pretending to be Mr Bourke wishing her a happy 10th birthday.
