Renita Brunton, a 31-year-old mother of one, was found in her second-hand clothing store in Sunbury on November 5th, 1993. She had been stabbed 106 times. The attack occurred at approximately 1pm.
She had only been married to her new husband Robert Brunton for 5 months.
Police believed that serial rapist and murderer Peter Dupas could have been a suspect but they have since revealed that Dupas has given them an alibi.
An acquaintance whose advances had been rejected fitted the description of a man who was seen around the store in the days leading up to the murder.
There was also a man seen arguing with Renita in the store the day before the murder.
Mrs Brunton’s friend, Annette Davey, said that Renita had been informally counselling people in the back of her store and she was scheduled to see a man with a violent sexual history on the day of her murder.
